Andalucía Aerospace is attending Farnborough International Airshow, one of the foremost global events for the aerospace industry, to showcase the capabilities of the companies operating within one of Southern Europe’s leading aerospace hubs. The event also follows the recent release of the 2025 Andalusian Aerospace Sector Report, which underscores the sector’s sustained growth and strategic importance to the regional economy.
Andalusia’s aerospace industry reached a new all-time turnover record, surpassing the €3 billion mark for the first time and achieving €3.228 billion. Compared with 2024, this represents a 10.79% increase, reinforcing the sustained growth of an industry that has expanded its business volume by 37.7% over the past decade. “There is no doubt that Andalusia’s aerospace industry is fully established. More importantly, these figures demonstrate that it has become one of the region’s key economic pillars, supported by the strength of an increasingly competitive and internationally oriented industrial ecosystem,” stated Fernando Alarcón de la Lastra, Chairman of Andalucía Aerospace.
One of the indicators underpinning this performance is the sector’s contribution to Andalusia’s industrial GDP, which reached 13.99% in 2025.
In terms of employment, the sector closed 2025 with 16,391 direct jobs, representing a 5.78% increase compared with the previous year. Notably, 43% of employees hold university degrees, while a further 40% are graduates of vocational education and training programmes.
One of the segments showing the strongest growth in both revenue and employment is the space industry, consolidating its steadily increasing importance within Andalusia’s aerospace ecosystem. This progress is being driven by growing activity linked to new capabilities, projects and programmes in the space domain in which Andalusian companies are becoming increasingly involved.
Civil Aviation Gains Momentum
The 2025 Andalusian Aerospace Sector Report, prepared by Andalucía Aerospace with the support of the Regional Ministry of Industry, shows that civil aerospace programmes now account for 64% of the revenue generated by Andalusia’s aerospace value chain, compared with 58% a year earlier. When OEMs and major manufacturers are included in the analysis, defence programmes carry a greater share of total revenue, highlighting the dual-use capabilities of Andalusia’s aerospace industry and its ability to serve both commercial and military markets.
The defence segment continues to reinforce Andalusia’s strategic role in key programmes that contribute to Europe’s industrial autonomy and technological sovereignty. At a time when increased defence spending is widely regarded as an industrial and technological opportunity, the region’s aerospace ecosystem is well positioned to strengthen existing capabilities. As Fernando Alarcón de la Lastra explained, “This combination of civil and defence activities demonstrates the resilience of Andalusian aerospace companies, which are capable of responding both to rising defence demand and to the ongoing expansion of commercial aviation. The coexistence of these two markets provides stability and supports long-term growth.”
While aerostructures manufacturing, assembly and mechanical activities continue to account for more than half of sector revenue (51%), the report reveals growing momentum in other areas such as aerospace services—including logistics, industrial maintenance and training—engineering, and aircraft MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) activities.
By market segment, 76% of revenue is generated by aeronautics, 15% by aviation, 7% by space activities, and 2% by drones and advanced air mobility.
The report also shows that average company productivity increased by 6.33% compared with the previous year.
Aerospace: A Driving Force Behind Exports
For several years, Andalusia has ranked as Spain’s second-largest aerospace exporting region, with the industry making a significant contribution to the growth of the region’s international trade performance. According to Andalucía TRADE, the region accounts for 38.4% of Spain’s aerospace exports. This reflects the deep integration of Andalusian aerospace companies within global value chains.
Export data for 2025 point to an increasingly diversified international footprint for the sector, with stronger positions being established in strategic markets worldwide.
Although aerospace exports are inherently cyclical, countries such as India have already emerged among the industry’s leading destinations, approaching the importance of long-established European markets including Germany, France and the United Kingdom. Strong growth in Asia and expanding activity across the Americas demonstrate the sector’s success in broadening its reach beyond traditional markets.
“From Andalucía Aerospace, we regard these results as clear evidence of the commitment of Andalusian aerospace companies to innovation, specialisation and international expansion. Internationalisation is essential for sustaining growth and creating high-value employment, while also demonstrating that our industry is fully prepared to seize opportunities in the global marketplace,” concluded the President of the Andalusian Aerospace and Defence Cluster.
