Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ)
The Mitsubishi Regional Jet, or MRJ for short, is a twin-engine regional jet created by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, a partnership between majority owner Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and minority owner Toyota Motor Corporation with design assistance from Subaru Corporation, itself already an aerospace manufacturer. The program was launched in early 2008 and will be the first passenger aircraft designed and produced in Japan since the NAMC YS-11 in the 1960s.
The first flight of the MRJ was in November 2015. In November 2017, Mitsubishi announced the construction of another three test aircraft, bringing the total number of prototypes to eight. The company expects additional aircraft to help meet its target for the first delivery, scheduled for mid-2020.
The creation of 6 versions with two different lengths of fuselage is planned. The MRJ70 will have a capacity of 70 to 80 passengers while the MRJ90 will have a capacity of 86 to 96 passengers.
