Andalusia Aerospace companies sign a manifesto in favor of the development of the space industry in Andalusia
Seville, October 5, 2023.- The companies of the Space Commission of the Andalusia Aerospace Cluster have signed a manifesto in favor of the development of the space industry in Andalusia, on the occasion of the celebration of the World Space Week.
Together in Aeropolis, Andalucía Aerospace companies have signed the manifesto with the desire to convey to the whole society and public and private institutions the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities that arise to develop more business, more companies and more employment in the space sector in Andalusia.
Through this manifesto is intended to highlight the space sector as a driver of major scientific advances in strategic sectors such as communications, transport, environment, energy, agriculture or defense and security. NewSpace includes technologies that will allow better management of our territory, greater responsiveness to climate and weather adversities, Internet of Things (IoT) coverage and basic communications in a homogeneous way.
In Andalusia there is already an incipient ecosystem of more than 150 different entities working in the space sector, including companies, research groups and various organizations. In addition to the industrial environment, there are educational centers and Universities that provide first level aerospace training.
The creation of a Spanish Space Agency and its location in Seville is a great achievement. Through the manifesto, the companies call on all institutions to work together to promote the space sector in Andalusia, as has been done to ensure that Seville is the headquarters of the Spanish Space Agency.
Andalusian companies are already developing and promoting projects that can boost the sector, such as the projects called Andalusat, Alpha or Platero, projects implemented from Andalusia and by companies with presence in Andalusia.
Finally, the companies request the involvement and collaboration of the public administrations so that these projects can be carried out. Andalusia has an Aerospace Strategy 2020-2027 that includes measures for the promotion of Space. The companies have urged the materialization of these measures, as well as the promotion of innovative public procurement in a consensual manner with the Andalusian productive fabric.
With the development of the space sector both in Andalusia and in Spain, the aim is to promote national technological independence with respect to third countries, in an industry considered strategic.
