AgroSpace
Description
The agricultural sector faces climate challenges such as droughts, fires, and extreme heat waves, as well as the need for more efficient resource management and the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices. To this end, the digitization of agriculture, through data collection and processing, promotes informed decision-making based on various complementary technologies. In this context, the use of space technologies is emerging, driving the transformation of the agricultural sector.
AgroSpace aims to promote the adoption of space technologies in rural areas as a tool for innovation and resilience in the face of climate change. To achieve this, three demonstrators will be implemented: one from an agricultural camera to improve the assessment of climate damage and thus better compensate farmers; another for the efficient management of agricultural resources in a large warehouse; and a third to validate a methodology based on open calls that identifies agricultural challenges and space solutions.
This strategy, which also includes training and awareness-raising actions, seeks to generate effective and transformative solutions that can be transferred to larger territories, and represents an innovative approach compared to current rigid financing systems.
AgroSpace is fully aligned with the efforts of the Interreg SUDOE program to preserve natural capital, adapt to climate change, and improve social cohesion in southwestern Europe. It has a budget of €2.5 million, of which €1.9 million comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and is expected to be developed over the next three years.
